Monitoring of Avifauna continues

Marangone minore (Microcarbo pygmeus, PALLAS, 1773

Pygmy Cormorant (Microcarbo pygmeus, Pallas, 1773)

As expected by the monitoring actions of Life LAGOON REFRESH project, monthly bird sightings are taking place along Sile river and the Lagoon. Here you are a picture of one of the target species of the Project, the Pygmy Cormorant, the smallest cormorants in the Venice Lagoon. Relative of the Cormorant and Shag, it is a species that falls within the highest European and Italian protections. In the Venice lagoon it is very common and breeds in colony  as in the whole upper Adriatic.
